Rice Solution (sensor-based rice plough management)

One of the goals of the SDGs is to double the productivity of rice by improving the existing research management through the innovation of sustainable technology. At the field level, the farmers are being deprived of the desired yield as well as financially suffering due to the lack of proper modern methods and lack of feedback system in the exchange of information related to disease and pest control management in modern rice cultivation. There are instructions on the application of technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution overall to reduce the loss of rice from diseases and insects and to increase the yield of rice.

As a result, an initiative has been taken to create researcher and farmer-friendly dynamic mobile and web apps with the help of SKILL DEVELOPMENT OF MOBILE GAMES AND APPLICATIONS (3rd Revised) PROJECT OF THE ICT DIVISION to increase the productivity of rice.

Intent:
• Introduction of image analysis-based rice disease and pest management systems using artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning method (MLM) and sensor technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution;
• Consultative management of proper diseases and pest problems for all users, including scientists, researchers, extension workers, farmers;
• Quick and easy immediate solution and management of rice diseases and pest-related problems;
• App-based diagnosis of rice in the field;
• increasing the yield of rice and ensuring sustainable production;

Notable creative features:
• Automatically provide images or information about diseases and insect-related problems through apps as input;
• In the Take Pictures option of the app, one or more images of the affected tree (upload a maximum of 5 pictures each time) can be sent from the field.
• To determine the accuracy rate and provide managerial advice by diagnosing diseases or insects in the automatically transmitted images in the apps;
• If an image other than a paddy tree is provided, the message related to take a picture of the paddy tree through image analysis will come to the user;
• The addition of the voice from text option to the use of important menus of apps for users with special needs;
• There is a facility to collect the necessary location-based disease identification reports.
• All users registered through the BRRI Community menu have the option to upload text/image/voice/video of any rice-related problem and interact like the Facebook group;
• The addition of digital calculators to determine the potential estimates of the cost and cost of rice cultivation; Addition of user manuals in Bengali and English;

Advantages of using mobile apps:
• Due to the use of Rice Solution mobile apps, the overall service delivery process will be easier. As a result, time, money & several times travel will be saved in terms of time, cost, visit-TCV in getting services through the app at the farmer level;
• Due to the addition of images of different areas of the country, including all the regional offices of BRRI, to provide accuracy rate, the apps will serve as a decision-making tool at the policy-making level.
• Under real-time data feeding technology, the creation of a rich database due to the continuous addition of various diseases and insects to the image server will increase the reliability, stability and scalability of the information.

Sustainability of the initiative:
• In the case of crops other than paddy, various organizations can use their crops suitable through sign up in the said apps.
• Creating data driven decision making models;
• to introduce new ideas by connecting farmers indigenous knowledge and technology;
• To introduce sustainable technology by achieving the SDGs 2.1, 2.3 2.4, 9A, 9B and 12.A.1 goals;

This app can also be downloaded and used from the link provided in the internal e-service menu of BRRIs website (www.brri.gov.bd).
